Fans of the Wightlink Warriors and Wizards will be sadden to hear that the Wizards popular skipper Ben Ilsley has taken the tough decision to put racing on hold following a high speed crash at the recent Tallington grass track event.
Family man Ben took a few moments to explain, “I didn't think this time would come, but after my accident at Tallington on Sunday I’ve regrettably had to make a decision to take some time away from racing.
It’s fair to say racing is what I have lived & breathed for most of my adult life and I have been fortunate to have had many successes, especially on the grass, during my sixteen years on track, however I had a serious back injury in 2015 and the recent crash has made me re-evaluate life, especially with my wife and young son to consider.
Another last memory will be the great time getting to know the people and riding for the Isle of Wight Wizards in the Southern Development League. It was a wonderful feeling being appreciated and supported by such a marvellous group of people and fellow riders.
Going forward I hope to build on the success of April’s Bantasia Grass Track that I jointly promoted so I will still be on the scene and very happy to say ‘Hi’ if our paths cross.
Finally a huge thank you to the many, many people who have helped me along the way. I owe you all so much. Thank you again”.
