Speedway fans who attended last Thursday’s meeting against Eastbourne will have seen some members of the new ‘Wightlink’ Wizards development squad in action for the first time – and determined to join them later in the season is Warriors mascot Chad Wirtzfeld who can currently be seen practicing before, during and after matches at The Andrew Younie Smallbrook Stadium.
Chad turns 15 in mid August and will then be eligible to ride competitively in both the Southern Development League and National League. Blandford based Wirtzfeld has been riding bikes since age 8 and has made terrific strides following regular tuition and practice at the Island’s speedway school ‘My First Skid’.
That improvement has not gone unnoticed by GB Youth Manager Neil Vatcher or continental grasstrack and longtrack promoters who are keen to have the emerging young Brit. in their prestige events.
With tremendous support and encouragement from the Wirtzfeld family, Chad had confirmed a wish to represent the Wizards and Warriors just as soon as he is eligible and is quick to thank the Warriors promotion for the guidance and coaching that has been provided.
Warriors co-promoter Barry Bishop, who has been a constant source of help and advice, said “Martin (Widman) and I are absolutely delighted that Chad has committed to the Wizards and Warriors going forward. We have worked extensively with him over the past two years via My First Skid and as the Club’s mascot. We have seen him improve rapidly over the past six months both on and off the track. Chad has terrific backing, a real hunger to succeed and we believe we can develop him further so that he can reach his full potential and establish speedway as his career”.
