With one prestigious national award already in the bag, the management of the Isle of Wight ‘Wightlink’ Warriors speedway team head to Leicester this weekend for the World Speedway Riders Association (WSRA) annual dinner and awards presentation.
Having been unexpectedly named the National League’s Most Improved Club by the British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA) last Friday, the Warrior crew will be hoping for more success at an event that saw the Island side named as the WSRA’s Community Club of 2018.
Speaking on his way back to the UK from an earthquake interrupted business trip to Thailand, Warriors co-promoter Barry Bishop said, “It’s that time of year when our sport celebrates the achievements of the past season and from a Warrior perspective we were absolutely stunned and delighted to be named as our league’s Most Improved Club by the BSPA.
We will also be in attendance at this weekend’s function when the WSRA come together to recognise clubs and individuals who have excelled in 2019. Last November we were proud to have our community interaction warmly acknowledged as the sport’s Community Club of 2018 and whilst this year’s nominations are currently being kept under wraps, it would be fantastic to think that we could continue our winning ways”.
