For the final meeting of the 2022 season, the Wightlink Warriors will host the extremely popular sidecar speedway crews at the Smallbrook Stadium this Thursday (8 September).
It’s been over three years since the sidecars were on track and this week current expectations are that up to eight specialist speedway chairs will be in action as part of a programme that will also feature twelve solo grasstrack racers with both respective disciplines competing for the NORA British Open Grasstrack Championship sponsored by Computers Network & Maintenance Ltd T/A itcomputers.
The sidecar line-up is expected to include Rachel Cox & Scott Gutteridge, Jake Gerring & Dennis Smit, James Hogg & Scott Goodwin (pictured), Ben Ilsley & Damon Hurst, Richard Jenner & Michael Chittenden, Paul Whitelam & Richard Webb and Jordan Smith & Wayne Powell.
The solos should include Arran Butcher, Ben Phillips, Ian Leverington, Jon Freeman, James Laker, Giles Dismore and Luke Tuck with support from Rob Snow, Bill Haynes and Phil Spencer.
Wightlink Warriors co-owner Barry Bishop said, “Here we are at the end of another enjoyable season, and we go out with a bang with the sidecar racers dicing it up. I’m often asked about when they are coming to the Island and this year, we changed some fixtures around so that we could accommodate them. When we add in the solo’s we are looking at 25 races on the night – a true value-for-money experience that has been the hallmark of our 2022 programme. It will be a wonderful way to bring the curtain down on our on-track season.”
The gates at Smallbrook open at 17.15 with youth demonstration races from 18.10 and the main event at 19.00. The Retreat snack-bar and The Premier Lounge will be open as usual for a range of tasty food and drinks.
Tickets for the end of season party on Saturday 29th October will be available soon. See Sarah Green in The Retreat or email your interest / requirements to ‘thepremierlounge@gmail.com’
