Meeting Result - Wildcats 16 vs Wizards 20 (MSDL)

Wizards Work Their Magic In Dorset.

Last night’s final M&SDL meeting for the Wightlink Wizards saw them leave their opponents the Weymouth Damers Blinds Wildcats spell bound with a great all round team performance at their adopted home track at Premiership club Poole Pirates.

After getting a late call up to guest at number 1 for the Kings Lynn Stars in their Premiership match, Chad Wirtzfeld ran a 2nd place behind Weymouth's Jacob Clouting in heat 1, who like Chad has had plenty of track time this season in the National Development League with the Kent Kings, with Morgan Williams taking third place for a 3-3 shared heat.

Two more even heats followed before Chad broke the deadlock in heat 4, beating the previously unbeaten Laker and with Morgan Williams running an excellent third place the Wizards led 13-11 with two heats to go. With the Wizards filling the minor scoring positions in heat 5, the meeting result hinged on the 6th and final heat of the night. Step forward young Chad once again as he outraced his unbeaten opponent Jacob Clouting to the chequered flag with Jamie Sealey taking 3rd place, securing a fine 20-16 win for the Wizards.

Jubilant team manager Kevin Shepherd said, “this meeting showed how the team has matured and gelled over the season with all of them riding sensibly and reacting to a very tight meeting. At no point was there any panic in the camp and they all plodded away until Chad made the vital breakthrough. Credit to Weymouth, they set their team line up so they had a strong rider in every heat which made it tough going for us but on the night we fully deserved the win and now we sit level on points with Exeter in 2nd place who have their last meeting tonight against Weymouth.”

Scorers:

Weymouth (16) : Jacob CLOUTING 8/3, James LAKER 8/3, Cesca Kirtley-Paine 0/3, Sam Peters 0/3.

Wizards (20) : Chad WIRTZFELD 8/3, Chris WATTS 6/3, Morgan WILLIAMS 3+2/3, Jamie Sealey 3+2/3

On behalf of all the management we would like to thank to all the squad for their efforts on track this season and also thank those that assisted the riders and all the sponsors for their very much appreciated backing.
