Meeting Result - Lion Cubs 57 v Warriors 33 (NL)

WARRIORS BEGIN ANXIOUS WAIT

The Warriors headed North last night with the destiny of making the play-offs laying in their hands where a win would of guaranteed them a play-off place joining last night’s opponents the Leicester Lion Cubs, Kent Kings and Belle Vue Colts.

The team arrived full of optimism and looking forward to getting the necessary points to achieve their aim. It must be said though that once racing started the track was found to be greasy due to it not drying as quickly in the September evening chill as the track staff anticipated, causing some of the Warrior riders problems in adapting to the track conditions.

Anders Rowe proved an excellent choice of guest with three straight wins, beating home number one Ellis Perks along the way in heat 9, the Warriors only 5-1 heat advantage alongside the skipper Ben Morley.

Team Manager Kevin Shepherd said, “Although the result didn't go our way on the night, nobody can fault any of the team for their effort but it must be said the home riders were sharper from the gate and passing was difficult due mainly to the track conditions not being consistent. Take nothing away from Leicester they fully deserved their win and you can see why they have remained unbeaten at home in the League this season. Our thanks go to Anders Rowe for his great performance for us, and I would like to add Chad was nominated in heat 15 on merit due to his efforts on track which his points tally did not fully reflect.”

Scorers: Lion Cubs: Danyon Hume 14+1, Ellis Perks 11+1, Ryan Terry-Daley 11, Joe Thompson 9, Matt Marson 6+3, Josh Embleton 6, Dan Thompson R/R

Wightlink Warriors: Anders Rowe 11, Ben Morley 10+1, Chad Wirtzfeld 4, Chris Widman 3+1, Scott Campos 3, Connor King 2, Danno Verge R/R.

The Warriors now await the results from the Cradley vs Kent and Plymouth vs Mildenhall meetings to see if they will join Leicester, Kent and Belle Vue in the play-offs.
